Nature and us

Contrary to the way most humans behave life does not thrive in isolation

Often we behave as if nature is something different and apart from us

Not something that we are a part of

So no wonder we are having problems with nature
.
Our futile efforts to control it are doomed
.
Only recently have we begun to acknowledge this
.
Many scientists insist that one more level down and we will have cracked it
.
A story we have been hearing for years and years now
.
One more step and we have it cracked
.
The control of nature that is
.
Blindingly, obviously not true
.
We have not cracked cancer we are nowhere near not withstanding claims to the contrary that we hear year after year
.
Nor have we many ideas about how to tackle super-bugs or many other diseases
.
Nor have we cracked our global water, soil, or desertification problems
.
Nor do we understand climate change let alone control it
.
Nor our social, economic and other man created problems
.
Nor our population problems
.
Pretending yes
.
We are good at that every day or so the media tells us how we have solved this or that problem
.
On solving this problem we have now exposed a new one, well actually the same one only now worse than before
.
And so this so called fight with nature goes on
.
Yet if we observe nature we can observe cooperation all around us from flat worms onwards
.
Darwinian survival fights are the exception not the rule
.
Cooperation is the rule
.
These examples of flatworms and mycorhizza are not anomalies
.
They are not some odd curiosity of nature.
.
They are ubiquitous.
.
Cooperation is everywhere.
.
Life depends on it.
.
Only the cultural blinders of Darwinian survival-of-the-fittest, the dog-eat-dog world, prevent us from seeing it.
.
Darwin also said this although his earlier writings about survival of the fittest have received greater attention.
.
We live in a cooperative biological world
.
A living entity which we call Gaia.
.
Life does not thrive in sterile isolation.
.
For humanity to position itself as somehow being apart from nature.
.
Is a self destructive nonsense
.
Pretending to be in control of nature is a major issue for us
.
Instead we desperately need to see that we are a part of nature
.
Then to assume our role as protectors of nature
.
To behave in this way is the only option for humanity
.
A role where we see that co-operation with nature is our only way out of our current mess
..
Will we see this in time?
.
And even if we do will we have the courage to change our ways?
.
Can we stand up against short sighted special interest groups who are destroying this planet for selfish monetary ends?
.
History says no
.
Let's hope this time we can
.
Oh!................... this is not just some abstract article
.
Each of us every day is involved by the choices and decisions we make
.
How are you doing?
