And the next generation

Is being brought up in fear of many things

Maybe every generation is

Brought up in fear that is

Take children today

When we think of children playing in the park, often the only things we think of happening to them are the bad things
.
When If it were truly dangerous in the parks, this would be a reasonable fear

But crime has gone down in the past 20 years in the US and the UK.
.
The number of recorded violent crimes in England and Wales has fallen from 4.3 million in 1995 to 2.4 million in 2005-06 — a 43% reduction
.
In 2009, the number of murders and child killings were at a 20-year low
.
Why are parents today so frightened?
.
The easy answer is more media

Not long ago the media was mostly non global and TV  news was only on at  a few certain fixed times every day

Now we have 24 hour news channels that need a lot of content

They have need of stories that compete with each other

That give more detail or sensation than their competitors
.
TV today gives us non stop news violence 24/7
.
Never stops every single news broadcast without fail has a seriously expressioned presenter telling us a story of a murder, rape or violence, relatively seldom to children though
.
When you think about it the real miracle is that out of 58 million people in the UK only one person has gone mad and done a despicable deed

So few are despicable deeds in reality that one in say Holland today will usually get airtime across the Western world from Europe to the United States and beyond

That is to say over 700 million people today behaving reasonably and one going mad
.
What has changed is that we are all wired into the media be it radio, TV or Internet

So we are all exposed to this onslaught of so called news 24/7
.
24/7 the media is with us never leaving us alone
.
In our houses, factories, offices, reception areas, shopping malls, pubs, airports, railway stations, taxis, everywhere there is the media
.
All the time
.
And what are they doing?
.
Giving us news?
.
Or keeping the fear level up?
.
What is wrong is the media drip feeding fear into our lives every single day
.
Not a day without some horror story
.
Then without noticing it you take on board the implication that life is dangerous
.
You fear for your children
.
Unreasoning fear because child crime is lower than it has been for years
.
Not to mention that child crime is usually perpetrated by people who know the children
.
The incidence of crimes against children is very low
.
And yet we are fed the idea that brutal sadists and madmen are hiding behind every bush and tree
.
Think how many times you’ve seen Madeleine McCann, and who knows the real truth of that story?
.
Yet more fear
.
And yet and yet where you live what is the reality?
.
Everyday normal life that's what is real
.
People doing everyday normal things
.
People being usually respectful of each other
.
People who for the most part smile at children and look out for their interests and needs
.
And yet your local playground at which you can leave your kids.
.
Do you, could you?
.
Probably not parents today feel unable to leave their children alone
.
Children shepherded hither and thither with interesting consequences for their future and ours
.
Children need some 'alone time'
.
Time away from adult supervision that is.
.
Time where they can be creative
.
Today often the only alone time they have is with their PlayStation's, TVs, discs and the like
.
The truth be known most PlayStation's games and programs are not very creative
.
So we come to another change in society with this generation growing up in a new way
.
What happens when a generation grow up surrounded by parental fear?
.
Not all of course because many segments of society have totally different problems
.
Parents who spend little or no time with their children
.
Children who are left to fend on their own
.
Every generation is different they say

This one presents new challenges for society, let's see how they do
